Grave Edging / Kerb Stones and Chippings
At Lovely Graves, we recently completed a grave renovation project at Everton Cemetery in Liverpool, transforming an overgrown grave space with the installation of new grave edging stones and decorative slate chippings.
Over time, grave plots can become difficult to maintain as grass, weeds and surrounding vegetation begin to encroach on the memorial. In this case, the grave had become overgrown, making it harder for visiting family members to keep the plot looking tidy and cared for.
Why Install Grave Edging Stones?
Grave edging stones provide a defined border around a grave plot, helping to create a neat and attractive appearance while reducing future maintenance requirements.
By installing edging around the perimeter of the grave, families can create a dedicated memorial space that is easier to keep clean and prevents surrounding grass from spreading into the plot.
Decorative stone chippings can then be added within the border to provide a low-maintenance finish that remains presentable throughout the year.
The Work Completed at Everton Cemetery
For this project, our first task was to clear the existing vegetation and remove the overgrown plants that had developed within the grave space.
Once the area had been fully prepared, we carefully installed new decorative grave edging stones around the perimeter of the plot. These edging stones created a clear and attractive boundary while enhancing the overall appearance of the memorial.
To complete the renovation, we laid decorative slate chippings within the bordered area, providing a smart, durable and low-maintenance finish that complements the existing headstone.
The surrounding area was then tidied to ensure the entire grave space looked clean, respectful and ready for future visits.

The Finished Result
The transformation was significant. What had previously been an overgrown and difficult-to-maintain grave plot became a neat and well-presented memorial space.
The new edging stones clearly define the grave area, while the slate chippings provide a clean and attractive finish that requires far less ongoing maintenance than a grass-covered plot.
Projects like this can make a huge difference for families who may not be able to visit regularly but still want their loved one's resting place to remain cared for and respectful throughout the year.
