Deep Clean of a white marble headstone in Allerton Cemetery, Liverpool
At Lovely Graves, we recently completed a marble headstone cleaning project at Allerton Cemetery in Liverpool for a family looking to restore a loved one’s memorial to a cleaner and more respectful condition.
Over time, marble headstones can become heavily stained due to algae, moss, weather exposure and general environmental dirt. This particular memorial had developed dark staining across the face of the stone, alongside dirt build-up around the base and engraved lettering.

The engraved lettering and decorative areas were cleaned by hand using soft brushes and low-abrasion techniques to protect the condition of the marble. We also cleaned around the base of the memorial and surrounding area to improve the overall appearance of the grave plot.

Following the clean, the white marble surface looked significantly fresher, the engraved details became more visible, and the overall grave space felt far more cared for and presentable for visiting family members.
